We have a tactile accessible route in place that offers a barrier-free circulation route extending from domestic entrance gates to flight gates.

Our single-line tactile Accessible Route extending along a main route from the information desk on the domestic departing passenger floor to check-in counters, the second security checkpoint and boarding gates helps our visually impaired guests using a white cane reach their flight gate free of barriers.

Loud Steps


“Loud Steps” - a feature available on our mobile app - gives our visually impaired guests the chance to independently circulate in our airport.

Our visually impaired guests using the “voice over” option on their phone in combination with the accessible route available at our airport can access “Loud Steps” when they open the map on Istanbul Airport mobile app.

Our visually impaired guests can use Loud Steps to search on the map any location they want to go, get a route to these locations for easy access with the help of voice guidance, and get information about their surroundings by holding out their phone and moving it around.

Sunflower Lanyard


The sunflower lanyard aims at making our guests with invisible special needs such as autism, dementia or anxiety disorder, who therefore are in need of support and sensitive approach, visible to our staff.

The sunflower lanyard aiming at providing assistance to individuals with special needs that are invisible to the eye but make the individual face difficulties in everyday tasks was first introduced in Britain and is currently used at several airports and other different service points worldwide. Brought into practice as an awareness-raising and sensitivity programme, sunflower lanyard makes the individuals with invisible needs visible to staff trained on the subject, facilitates sensitive approach towards these individuals, and provides convenient access to assistance and support wherever they may be in need thereof.

Our guests who want to get a sunflower lanyard can do so for free by filling out a request form at our information desks, without the need to submit a medical report, and can continue to use the same lanyard for future travel and at all points where the sunflower lanyard is current practice

Accessible Toilet


We have accessible toilets available in every toilet area to make our guests’ basic needs accessible.

We have accessible toilets available in every toilet area. All accessible toilets are provided with an audible vacant / occupied alert system, with their doors operated with motion sensors. When you approach your hand to the sensor, the door will automatically open outward and can be locked from inside with a button.

Adult Changing Place


We improve the travel experience of our guests in need of a changing place with adult-size bed unit.

We have two adult changing places at our airport where our guests can meet their changing needs. Put at the disposal of our departing passengers with one located on the domestic and one located on the international floor, both changing places are provided with adult-size height-adjustable bed units for convenient changing.

  • International departing passenger floor: first toilet area to the west after passport control
  • Domestic departing passenger floor: toilet area allocated to remote flight gates area G3


We offer accessible elevator service.

Our elevators are provided with tactile paving and Braille floor signs for accessibility, along with an audio induction loop for our guests with hearing aids in addition to voice guidance in both Turkish and English inside the elevators.

Very Special Guest Card and Very Special Guest Room


We improve the airport experience of our guests with autism, down syndrome or cerebral palsy with the privileges of İGA Very Special Guest card.

Our airport has introduced the Very Special Guest card to facilitate the airport processes of our guests with autism, down syndrome or cerebral palsy who may need a calmer environment due to their increased sensitivity to noise and crowd. Our guests can lodge an application for the Very Special Guest card on our website, with the requirement to upload their medical report and photograph, to benefit from the privileges set out below:

  • Very Special Guest Rooms: Our airport has two Very Special Guest rooms, one on the domestic and one on the international floor, which are both provided with toys, resting areas, a TV screening cartoon movies and flight information displays to make you spent some quality time while waiting for your flight. There is also a small-size silent room with rubber-coated walls in both rooms that can be used in times of crisis. Our guests who want to use these rooms are required to notify their request to the information desk upon their arrival at the airport and show their card as proof of eligibility.
  • Buggy: Our guests can make free use of our buggy shuttles that offer carriage on a predefined route, together with one companion.
  • Priority Pass: Our guests with hidden disabilities can show their Very Special Guest card to enjoy priority pass at security checkpoints that offer priority pass for handicapped or pregnant passengers.
