​May 24, 2019: With the participation of Boğaziçi University Education Laboratory for Individuals with Visual Disabilities (GETEM), The Association of Barrier-Free Access, Physical Disability Foundation, the route from the airport entrance to the international flight gates was experienced by 4 visually impaired and 1 low vision members. A discussion on how to improve the experience has taken place in every point of contact.

June 3, 2019: Through Mutluluğun Adresi (The Address of Well-Being) Association, the route from the airport entrance to the international flight gates was experienced by 2 autistic individuals, their families together with the instructor. A discussion on how to improve the experience has taken place in every point of contact. We have received suggestions regarding the interior design of the Very Special Guest room.

July 31, 2019: A field trip was organized with the participation of GETEM (Boğaziçi University Education Laboratory for Individuals with Visual Disabilities), 4 visually impaired members of The Association of Barrier-Free Access, the software developer of Boni, the Loud Steps developer, and project managers with a meeting held on the requirements of the Loud Steps application. For the Accessible Route, the visually impaired individuals and design experts came together.

September 27, 2019: With the participation of the Spastic Children's Foundation of Turkey, the route from the terminal entrance to domestic flight gates was experienced by a 13-years-old wheelchair-bound individual with Cerebral Palsy and their family. A discussion on how to improve the experience has taken place in every point of contact. We have received suggestions regarding the interior design of the Very Special Guest room.

October 17, 2019: With the participation of Spastic Children's Foundation of Turkey, the route from terminal entrance to international flight gates was experienced by a 19-years-old wheelchair-bound individual with Cerebral Palsy and their family together with the instructor. A discussion on how to improve the experience has taken place in every point of contact. We have received suggestions regarding the interior design of the Very Special Guest room.

 

November 3, 2019: İGA Istanbul Airport participated in the Istanbul Marathon charity run. With this run, a 12-week rehabilitation cost of 82 children was raised on behalf of the Spastic Children's Foundation of Turkey on İyilik Peşinde Koş (Run for Charity) platform.

November 20, 2019: With the participation of Spastic Children's Foundation of Turkey, the route from terminal entrance to domestic flight gates was experienced by a 7-years-old individual with Cerebral Palsy who uses a walker and their family together with their physical therapist. A discussion on how to improve the experience has taken place in every point of contact. We have received suggestions regarding the interior design of the Very Special Guest room.

December 24, 2020: A field trip was held with Fulya EKMEN, board member of Down Turkey, and two experts to discuss the airport experience of individuals with Down syndrome and the points that can be improved together.

February 4, 2020: Cooperating with Tohum Autism Foundation, accessibility projects were explained and a meeting was held concerning the airport guide to be prepared, in order to improve the experience of individuals with autism at the airport.

February 19, 2020: Turkey Autism Council andTODEV (Turkey Support for Autism and Education Foundation) Board Member Arzu Gökçe visited our airport and presented us with a thank you plaque for our Sunflower Lanyard project.

February 25, 2020: Loud Steps application and Accessible Route were tested with GETEM (Boğaziçi University Education Laboratory for Individuals with Visual Disabilities), 7 visually impaired individuals who are members of The Association of Barrier-Free Access, and software developers of Boni, the developer of Loud Steps.

April 2, 2020: For Autism Awareness Day, the air control tower was lighted up in blue. Posts were shared on social media to draw attention to the active participation of individuals with autism.

July 23, 2020: For the experience of our guests aged 65+, a field trip was organized with the Elderly Association and a discussion on how to improve the experience at every point of contact took place.

October 6, 2020: On October 6, World Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day, the air traffic control tower was illuminated in green and green wristbands were handed out to the staff and passengers in order to draw attention to the issue.

October 10, 2020: Declaration of Accessibility was undersigned together with 32 shareholders. Erişilebilirlik Deklarasyonu imzalandı

 

November 9-15, 2020: At the White Cane Online Festival sponsored by the İGA Istanbul Airport, accessibility projects were introduced during the “Accessibility in the Airport” seminar.

December 19, 2020: Within the scope of the online event, organized by the Turkish Down Syndrome Association, with the participation of 27 foundations and associations working for different disability groups across Turkey, the accessibility practices provided at Istanbul Airport were explained and recommendations were received.

March 2, 2021: : Through TODEV (Turkish Foundation for Support and Education for Autistic People), a field trip was organized for a 10-years-old individual with autism, the personal trainer, and the family counselor. We have received suggestions regarding the interior design of the Very Special Guest room.

March 2, 2021: Within the scope of TODEV's "Fark Yok, Sevgi Var" (There is No Difference, But Love) project, 10-years-old Feyza Binici with autism took a photo of Mr. Kadri SAMSUNLU and his daughter Lara SAMSUNLU at the airport.

 

April 2, 2021: Sunflower Lanyard for April 2, Autism Awareness Day: With the "My Companion" exhibition, the painting works of individuals with autism aged 4-18 with the theme of "My Companion" and the 3D Sunflower and Istanbul Airport Air Traffic Tower model designed by 18-years-old Mehmet Mesut UYGUN were presented to the guests for 1 month in the Baggage Claim Hall at the Domestic Terminal.

April 2, 2021: As part of the Autism Awareness Day, with the support of the Sunflower Hidden Disabilities company, the blue-lit spots were shared on social media with the #Lightitupblue tag in collaboration with London Heathrow Airport, Ireland Donegal Airport, and Toronto Pearson Airport.

April 21, 2021: As part of TODEV's “There is No Difference, But Love” project, the photos of prominent figures from the world of business and art, taken by autistic individuals were exhibited in the Istanbul Airport Domestic Flights Baggage Claim area.

07.09.2021 At CX Awards Turkey - Customer Experience Awards 2021, İGA was granted the Best Diverse and Inclusive Customer Experience award for all accessibility services and the Best Use of Technology award for Loud Steps application and Accessible Route which were developed for the independent travels of visually impaired individuals at the airport. An interview with the Istanbul Airport Customer Experience personnel was conducted following the award show held by the Awards International in Turkey and presided by international jury members.
